How to Choose Good Manuka
You may ask, with all the honey products available in Singapore today, how do I know that what I am buying is REAL Manuka. Well, the sad fact is that there is a lot of unadulterated Manuka out there claiming to be the real deal. Some are mixed with Manuka or lower or no acivity and even with non-Manuka honeys, not even produced in New Zealand. Hence here are some questions to ask before you hand over your hard-earned cash for Manuka:-
- Can you trace the Apiary which produced the Manuka in New Zealand through a simple web search? If not, then there is a possibility that it is a non-New Zealand made Manuka.
- Is the Apiary a member of the Active Manuka Honey Association (AMHA)? You can find a list of licensed honey producers on their website at http://www.umf.org.nz/Licensees.html.
- Was the activity of the honey measured in retail jars prior to exporting?
- Where was the honey packed?
- What is the name of the laboratory that conducted the UMF activity tests?
